Happy Canada Day!
Its a beautiful day in Forest, Ontario, where I am spending the Canada Day and Independence Day holiday this year at my family cottage. Our little cottage sits on a lakefront lot with a beautiful view in the bright sunshine, during the picturesque sunsets, and under the moonlight. Its tucked back on our lot with a quaint deck overlooking the water. Beachy decor fills our entire cottage, with a simple palate of off-white, sand, olive, and crimson. Rattan furniture is placed throughout our humble abode, keeping the small space feeling light and airy. Simplicity is the key in this space, since there is nothing more beautiful to look at than the lake itself.

As a Canadian living in the United States, I am lucky to be able to celebrate both holidays and to further appreciate the talents of designers in both of my homes. Today, I would like to pay special tribute to two Canadian designers, Candice Olsen and Sarah Richardson.

Candice Olsen's appropriately named HGTV show, "Divine Design," introduced me to the style I have come to identify so well with over the years. This designer creates magazine-worthy designs in every space that she creates, but the best part about her designs is that they look so livable! I have noticed her wonderful knack for sleek organization and mixing old with new. She is able to make even the most contemporary designs look comfortable in their own right.

Sarah Richardson has developed her image via HGTV and her complete overhauls of her vacation homes. While the excessive use of different patterns in a single space doesn't quite tickle my fancy, I commend her for her creative spins on typically traditional items and spaces.

Today's post is just about my personal perspective of these two Canadian designers, but I am sure their bio and a wonderful sampling of their work will be included in the "inspiring people" department very soon!
